Mission and focus:

The work of this research group is characterized by a balanced approach that combines basic research with practical applications to ensure theoretical rigor and tangible impact on practice. The Nature-Inspired Machine Learning Research Group explores intelligent systems grounded in the principles of nature, cognition, and human reasoning. We focus on representation learning, neuro-symbolic reasoning, and foundational models, with knowledge graphs at the core. Our mission is to develop transparent, trustworthy AI that supports scientific discovery and benefits society, nature, and the environment. The group operates as a cross-institutional network across Hannover, Leipzig, and Dresden.
